Cyber SimLab

Learn cybersecurity by living the incident — hands-on attack & defense simulations, not slideshows.

One of my early builds, and the most on-brand one: a browser lab for actually learning security by doing it. Each scenario drops you into an interactive terminal with a timed, multi-step task list — examine the email headers, trace the intrusion, contain the ransomware — and teaches the concepts as you work, with difficulty tiers and progress that carry across sessions.

  • Six guided scenarios spanning beginner to advanced — phishing detection, network intrusion, ransomware response, privilege escalation, data exfiltration, and full incident response
  • Each runs in an interactive in-browser terminal with a countdown, a step-by-step task list, and clear learning objectives
  • Difficulty tiers and time estimates per scenario; accounts and a dashboard track completion across sessions
  • An AI assistant explains the why behind each move, backed by a curated resources hub
  • Next.js
  • TypeScript
  • Tailwind
  • shadcn/ui
  • LLM API

how it works

  1. 01

    Pick a scenario

The lab opens on a grid of scenarios tagged by difficulty (Beginner → Advanced) and time estimate, each a self-contained route under /scenarios so new ones can be dropped in.

  2. 02

    Drop into the terminal

Starting a scenario boots an interactive console — e.g. a CyberDefender email-security terminal — with a live countdown and a multi-step task list to work through.

  3. 03

    Learn by doing

Tasks and learning objectives walk you through the real workflow — examine headers, flag indicators, classify, report — instead of multiple-choice quizzing.

  4. 04

    Track progress

Auth, profiles, and a dashboard record completion so the lab works like a course you return to; an AI assistant and resources hub fill in the gaps.
